This paper examines texts written by, or in collaboration with, female ex-members of the Italian left-wing armed organization, the Red Brigades. I show how strategies such as the integrated use of documentary and imaginative elements, the multimodal metaphoric dimension developed through word and image, and the use of irony may compel the viewer/reader to take an active role in the creation of meaning, contributing to more inclusive and relational approaches to the experience of migrants. On the premise that the aesthetic qualities of visual arts and literature have the potential to destabilize sensationalist rhetoric and produce a more complex understanding of Mediterranean migration, I focus on representations of migration by sea from Northern Africa toward Europe in works from the exhibition The Restless Earth/La terra inquieta (Milan, 2017) and the Italian short story La via del pepe: finta fiaba africana per europei benpensanti (2014), by Massimo Carlotto. Mediterranean migration is often spectacularized by contemporary global media, creating a hyper-determined discourse that any art form engaging with the migrant experience must consider. The ideology that inspired the group’s violent actions must be brought back to Nazi Ideology, especially to the ideas of what is generally known as Esoteric Nazism. According to the analysis of the group’s language and messages it passed on, this paper suggests that the political nature of the Ludwig group receives its inspiration from Nazi ideology. The collected material, comprised of seven leaflets released by the Ludwig group in 1980–1984, has been examined through the analysis of language register, syntactic and rhetorical structure, adopted lexicon and co-occurrences. The source material of the analysis is represented by the handwritten leaflets released by the group to claim its actions. The present article examines the structure and the nature of the group’s language through a multidimensional approach to rediscuss its current classification and description. The Ludwig group is usually described by the media as a group of serial killers operating in Italy during the so-called Years of Lead.
